Want to see how far we have gone? Download this Google Earth kml file and open in GE –Alaska Ride We smoked all night long, or at least it felt that way from the smoking room that we had, and woke up to a sprinkling morning that was chilly. We topped off our tanks and headed out west on the Alaskan Highway (1) and after about 20 minutes the sprinkels stopped and it was slowely clearing.
At one of our gas stops, it was 7 degress celces, or about 42 degrees, although we were dressed for it and with those hippo hands, no problem keeping the hands warm. Like Big Steve would say, it is like sticking your hand in an oven… As we approached Haines Jct, you could see the mountain range start to rise up but the peaks were still covered under the clouds. As the day progressed, it slowely started to clear and reaveal the beauty of the area.
At Haines Jct we stopped for some coffee and smoke salmon at a great bakery just off the beaten path. I was able to Skype my sister with my iPhone there must to my amazement.
We left Haines Jct following the Kluane National Park Perserve off to our left.
We stopped for a break at a beautiful lake..
But we had to leave beacause the mesquitoes we started to bother Steve …. We still skirted a few storms along the way to the Border.
Finally we enter into Alaska again, and the scenery continues.
At one of our construction flag man stops, we found out that Alaska was a Freedom of Choice state!
So Steve and I rode the rest of the way into Fairbanks the way we choose to ride… Wechecked in, cleaned up, got something to eat – and it was still light out at 10:30. I mean light out like it was 6:00 p.m.at home. But we were tired so we called it a day…
