One of the difficulties I’m having with this trip is how to pack for it. Unlike my Sturgis trips, I’m unfamiliar with the weather we may encounter. Also, we are planing to do some camping to keep our lodging costs down on this longer trip, so there is a lot more to pack and organize.
A motorcycle trip is just like any other trip when it comes to packing – you always tend to pack too much, but with a motorcycle trip, those extra items get in the way when your trying to reload your bike as your limited in space. One trick I’ve learned in the past is to layout your items before your trip, pack, then take it all out again and really determine what you “need” as oppose to what you’d like to have. Below is my first layout of items ‘d like to take:
In the center are the hard bags that mount on the bike. On the couch I laid out what I will wear while riding and may need as conditions change. My Sidi riding boots, electric socks, convertable pants, sleeveless shirt, long sleeve t-shirt, Riding jacket with linner, Rain Jacket, Electic vest, rain pants, additional liner for pants, neck gators and couple pair of gloves. I will back these in a bag and bungie on the back of my bike – I want them handy to get to while riding.
To the left of the bags is the camping gear, tent, and footprint, sleeping bag, air mattress, pillow, cott, lantern, stove, cup, coffee press, towel, propane gas and other small items for camping. I’l try and stuff all these into on waterproof bag on the back of the bike also.
To the right of the bags are just a few clothes. Three t-shirts, a pair of jeans, underwear, socks, bathing suit, socks, turtle neck shirt, thermal top and pants. These will be packed in the bags.
In front of the hard bags are items I think I need for both camping and hotel stays. Fleese jacket and pants, toiletries, flip-flops, misquitoe repelant, extra bungies and staps, computer, and various electronic charges for phone, and cameras. Also you can see some maps and tour guides that would be nice to have.
